About the festival
Hitachi Furyumono is a float that stages karakuri mechanical puppet plays, shown at the festival of Kamine Shrine in Hitachi City. It is said to date back to 1695, when parishioners of Miyata Village built a float and offered it to the shrine. Many karakuri puppets act out stories on top of a five-tier float about 15 meters tall.
