About the festival
Held at the festival of Yakumo Shrine in Nasukarasuyama City, this event traces its origin to 1560, when the lord of Karasuyama Castle enshrined the deity Gozu Tenno. Backdrops called yama, made of bamboo woven in a wickerwork pattern, covered with Karasuyama washi paper and painted, are set up on the street, and Tokiwazu dance pieces are performed in front of them. The set is assembled and dismantled again for each performance.
