ABOUT

About the festival

This float event is held at the annual festival of Ogaki Hachiman Shrine, the guardian shrine of Ogaki. It is said to have begun in 1648, when ten neighborhoods of the castle town pulled yama floats, and the town later received three floats from the domain lord. Today thirteen floats present dolls and dances as offerings in front of the shrine and tour the castle town.

  • Hogei, as each float presents puppet performances and children's dances in front of the shrine

  • Yomiya and hikiwakare, when lantern-lit floats gather and then part ways

  • The honraku procession of all thirteen floats through the castle town
