About the festival
This event is held at the Gion festival of Tobata in Kitakyushu City. It is said to have begun in 1803, when yamakasa floats were offered following an epidemic in 1802. By day the floats parade as nobori oyamakasa with twelve banners raised, and at night they transform into chochin oyamakasa with lanterns stacked in twelve tiers.
