About the festival
This bon dance is held in the grounds of Tounji temple in Utogi, Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City. Men's dances and women's dances are separate, and the dancers themselves sing as they dance to the beat of shimedaiko drums. Records from the Meiji and Taisho eras preserve more than 100 song texts, some resembling popular songs of the Muromachi to early Edo periods.
